About The Department

The Department of Mathematics came into existence in 1948 with B. Sc. General Course in Mathematics and started its Honours course in the session 1963-1964. All the aforesaid courses are affiliated with the University of Burdwan.
At the beginning, this institution was the only centre of studying mathematics in this area. Initially the department was started with Prof. P. K. Pal. Then Dr. R. N. Hazra, Dr. N. K. Kundu, Prof. T. Nayek, Dr. Biswajit Pal, Dr. Hare Krishna Samanta, Dr. Biswanath Garai and Dr. Ratan Kumar Dutta joined this department one by one.
Currently, the department is equipped with two full-time teachers, Dr. Biswanath Garai, Dr. Sarmila Bhattacharyya and one SACT, Dr. Manideepa Ghosh.
The Department of Mathematics has introduced the Semester system of evaluation at the undergraduate level (CBCS system) in 2017-18, followed by the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) from 2020-21 session.
Through these reforms, the department emphasizes holistic learning, academic flexibility and skill-based education, preparing students for the evolving demands of the modern world.
The Department possesses a very long history in academic performance. A large number of proficient students have been produced by the Department who have established themselves at present.
Vision
Prepare students for future examinations to avail themselves of job opportunities and develop a scientific attitude for research work as well as inspire them to become ideal citizens of the nation.
Mission
- 1. To conduct Departmental Seminars, Workshops for the student to gather knowledge and grow interest in research work.
- 2. To provide opportunities for students and teachers to participate in National Conferences and Workshops for the benefit of both.
- 3. To arrange mock interviews, quiz contest, GD for students to prepare them for future job opportunities.
