About the Department
Netaji Mahavidyalaya was established in 1948, and the Department of Education has been an integral part of the institution since its inception. The B.A. (Honours) in Education was introduced in 2008, followed by the B.A. (General) in Education in 2011. In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the UGC Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF), the department currently offers the B.A. Major in Education under both the Three-Year Undergraduate Programme (UGP) and the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) from the academic session prescribed by the affiliating university. The four-year programme enables students to earn an Honours or Honours with Research degree, while the three-year programme leads to a Bachelor's degree with opportunities for multiple entry and exit in line with NEP 2020.
The department has one sanctioned full-time teaching post. At present, the department consists of Dr. Dhiman Kar (Assistant Professor) and three State Aided College Teachers (SACTs): Mrs. Tanushree Roy Kaity, Dr. Bimalendu Santra, and Dr. Pratiksha Goswami.
The department has a well-equipped library that caters to the academic needs of students and faculty. Students can borrow books from the departmental library by depositing their library cards. The library remains open on all working days, and books may be borrowed or returned from Monday to Friday.
The department publishes its annual printed magazine, "SUCHANA", once every academic session. In addition, a departmental wall magazine named "ANKUR" is published every year. Students and faculty members are encouraged to contribute articles, essays, poems, and creative writings to these publications.
Besides regular teaching-learning activities for the Undergraduate Programme, the department organizes a variety of academic and co-curricular activities, including educational excursions, seminars, workshops, quiz competitions, special lectures, student seminars, career counselling programmes, and community outreach activities. These initiatives aim to promote critical thinking, research aptitude, leadership qualities, and holistic development among students in accordance with the objectives of NEP 2020.
