About the Department
A new chapter was added in Computer Science department in the year 2010 when the college started a new Honours course in Computer Application [B.C.A.(H)]. This is a self-financing course and one of the best options after 10+2 levels. Initially B.C.A. (H) and B.Sc (H) shared the same laboratory. But in 2011 a new Software Lab for B.C.A. (H) was established with thirty (30) computers and a Kyan Projector.
Our first batch rolled out in 2013 with good number of first class. Most of the students took admission in MCA by qualifying JECA (Joint Entrance for Admission in Master of Computer Application) and some others are admitted in other states like Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh etc.
Along with the University of Burdwan we arranged some off campus interviews for our pass-out students. Some students were placed in companies. Our students worked as Software Developer in TCS, Mindtree, Wipro, Cognizant. Also, as Sr. Executive in Prop. Shikaar and as an Executive in Dream GK.
Today the department has one (01) Assistant Professor, Five (05) State Aided College Teachers (SACT), Two (02) Visiting Teachers. It has a Seminar Library with more than 400 books and one Software Lab with Thirty (30) computers and one Hardware Lab with Thirty-two (32) Digital Trainer Kit and five (05) 8085 simulator Kit.T

As the Head of the BCA Department here at Netaji Mahavidyalaya, it is my privilege to welcome both our returning students and the fresh minds joining us this academic year.
In today’s rapidly shifting technological landscape, a degree in Computer Applications is more than just learning to code—it is about developing analytical logic, mastering problem-solving, and understanding how technology integrates into the real world. Our curriculum is designed not just to help you pass exams, but to prepare you for the intense demands of the IT industry and higher technical studies.
To my students: your time in this department will fly by. I expect you to be regular in your labs, curious in your theory classes, and proactive in your projects. Don't just absorb information—test it, break it, and build something new with it. My door, and the doors of our dedicated faculty members, are always open to guide your academic and professional growth.
With our modern software and hardware laboratories, dedicated faculty members, and interactive student initiatives like quizzes and our annual wall magazine 'Wall PC', we strive to create a vibrant space for learning. Our pride lies in our students, many of whom have consistently gone on to excel in higher education through JECA or kick-started their careers in top global tech firms like TCS, Wipro, and Cognizant.
