Detailed Profile

Prof. Sarala Mandi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bengali (UG & PG) at Netaji Mahavidyalaya, where she has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students since February 8, 2024. She approaches teaching with sincerity and believes that learning becomes meaningful when it connects knowledge with everyday life and lived experiences.

Her academic interests reflect a deep appreciation for both literature and culture. She specialized in Loko-Sanskriti Bidya (Folk Culture Studies) during her M.A. and earned a Certificate in Library Science, strengthening her interest in research, documentation, and the preservation of knowledge.

Her M.Phil. dissertation, "Bankura Jelar Santal Janagosthir Lokoj Puja-Parban: Ekti Khetra Samiksha Bhittik Paryalochana," is a field-based study of the folk rituals and festivals of the Santal community in Bankura district. Through this research, she explored the close relationship between folk traditions, cultural identity, and community life.

Her research interests include Modern Bengali Literature (1980–2020), Folk Culture, and Folk Literature. She is particularly interested in understanding how literature and folklore preserve the voices, memories, and traditions of ordinary people. Through her teaching and research, she encourages students to value both classical literary texts and the rich cultural heritage that lives in local communities.
