About the Department

In 1948 the faculty of Bio Science was budded concurrently off its main stem, the nascent intermediate college Netaji Mahavidyalaya.Prof. Saroj Kumar Sinha being the founder of the faculty served the department as Lecturer.Three-year degree course was introduced in 1971. The faculty was glorified with the introduction of Honours course in 1983. Since then, the department has been progressing towards perfection.In addition to regular study, the department brings out a wall magazine ‘Pearl Oyster’. The wall magazine is usually published on 5th September regularly since 2004.

DEPARMENTAL LIBRARY

The library has a collection of 310 books mostly animal behavior, ecology, evolution, anatomy, physiology, taxonomy, and conservation.

DEPARMENTAL LABORATORY

The laboratory is equipped with a range of specialized equipment and facilities tailored to the needs of zoology research and teaching. This may include microscopes, dissection tools, animal behavior observation setups, aquaria, terraria, incubators, and other equipment specific to studying animals and their behaviors.

EXCURSION

Educational excursion is a compulsion for the learners as per syllabus of the University and norms of UGC to make the students conversant with different types of animals and their natural environment.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES

Zoology departmental activities encompass a wide range of educational, research, and outreach endeavors aimed at advancing knowledge of animal biology, fostering academic growth, and engaging with the broader community. Departments organize regular seminar series and colloquia, featuring presentations by faculty members and students on their research findings and current topics in zoology.
